Who Is Brashard Smith?
Smith is a versatile offensive player whose background includes work as a receiver, running back and kick returner. That versatility has followed him from college into the NFL.
He grew up in the Miami area and attended Miami Palmetto before beginning his college career with the Miami Hurricanes. Miami listed his hometown as Richmond Heights, Florida, and Smith arrived as a highly regarded wide receiver prospect.
His speed was obvious long before he became an NFL running back, but his career changed most dramatically when he left Miami for SMU.
From Miami Wide Receiver to SMU Running Back
Smith played at Miami from 2021 through 2023. During his junior season, he was still listed as a wide receiver but contributed in several ways, including as a return specialist.
In 2023, Miami credited him with 979 all-purpose yards, including 263 receiving yards, 132 rushing yards and 579 kick-return yards. He also earned second-team All-ACC recognition as a return specialist.
Smith transferred to SMU for the 2024 season, where one decision changed the direction of his career: he moved from wide receiver to running back.
The transition worked immediately.
Smith rushed for 1,332 yards and 14 touchdowns on 235 carries in his only season at SMU. He added 39 receptions for 327 yards and four receiving touchdowns, while his work in the return game helped him finish with an SMU single-season record of 1,977 all-purpose yards.
His experience as a receiver remained useful after the position switch. Rather than becoming a one-dimensional runner, Smith brought receiving and return ability into his new role.
Brashard Smith’s NFL Draft Journey
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Smith in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft with the 228th overall pick.
That draft position did not fully capture his athletic testing.
At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Smith ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds, one of the fastest times among running backs at that year’s event. NFL coverage listed only Bhayshul Tuten and Jaydon Blue ahead of him among the position’s notable 40 times.
His speed, receiving background and return experience made him an intriguing multipurpose prospect even though he entered the NFL with only one full college season as a running back.
Chiefs Career and Current Role
Smith made Kansas City’s roster as a rookie and appeared in all 17 regular-season games in 2025.
According to the Chiefs’ official statistics, he recorded 151 rushing yards on 44 carries and caught 25 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown during his rookie season. He also contributed heavily on special teams, returning 18 kickoffs for 481 yards and six punts for 68 yards.
Those numbers show why Smith should not be evaluated only by rushing production. His value has included receiving ability and return work, skills that trace directly back to his college career.
Kansas City kept Smith on its initial 53-man roster for the 2026 season alongside running backs Emmett Johnson and Kenneth Walker.
As of October 2026, the Chiefs continue to list Smith as an active running back wearing No. 24.
How Tall Is Brashard Smith?
Brashard Smith is 5 feet 10 inches tall.
The Chiefs currently list him at 196 pounds. Some pre-draft material listed him around 194 pounds, so small differences in older profiles are expected. For a current player profile, Kansas City’s active roster measurement of 5-foot-10 and 196 pounds is the most useful reference.
Brashard Smith Contract and Salary
Smith is playing under the rookie contract he signed after being drafted in 2025.
Over The Cap currently lists his four-year contract at approximately $4.33 million, including $133,476 in fully guaranteed money. His listed 2026 base salary is $1.005 million, with a 2026 salary-cap charge of about $1.038 million.
Those figures should not be confused with one another. The roughly $4.33 million figure represents the potential total value of the multi-year contract, not Smith’s annual salary or personal wealth.
There is also no reliable basis for presenting a precise Brashard Smith net-worth figure. A player’s contract provides information about football earnings, but it does not reveal assets, taxes, expenses, investments or overall personal wealth.
Is Brashard Smith Married or Dating?
Brashard Smith’s current relationship status has not been publicly confirmed through reliable sources reviewed for this profile.
That means claims identifying a wife or girlfriend should not be presented as fact without credible public confirmation. Smith is a public athlete, but that does not make unverified details about his private relationships reliable information.
The same standard applies to family details. Publicly documented background can be included when relevant, but private information about relatives should not be guessed or taken from unsupported celebrity-profile pages.
Conclusion
Brashard Smith’s rise from Miami wide receiver to record-setting SMU running back and then Chiefs draft pick makes his career path distinctive. Now in his second NFL season, his combination of speed, receiving experience and special-teams ability continues to define his role in Kansas City.
